Job description

Workers must be able to Plant, Cultivate (staking and tying) Harvest, grade, sort, and Pack; peppers, cucumbers, cabbage, corn, eggplant, tomatoes, onions, watermelon, cantaloupe, blueberries, greens, squash, and citrus. Packing House is part of the farm. When pruning workers will take cuttings for propagation. Plant produce by hand placing into pre-dug holes along rows. Pick developed peppers/tomatoes from bush, cucumbers. Cut squash/eggplant using a knife, harvest corn by hand making sure stalk is pulled clean of all ears, and harvest onions, cut top and placing crops into boxes or buckets, making sure that plant is picked clean of all vegetables of correct size and maturity. When bucket is full, carry to dumper on truck that is moving through rows alongside workers, being careful not to bruise vegetables. Cut cabbage using a knife and individually place it into moving truck. Make sure cabbage rows are clean of correct sized heads and correct number of leaves, being gentle with heads. Cut greens with knife removing any discolored or defective leaves, place bands around bundles and harvest onion by cutting the top, putting them into boxes in the field, When boxes are full, carry to truck that is moving through rows alongside workers and receive a new box. Cut watermelon or cantaloupe from vine, lift selected melon, then pitch the melon to another worker who catches the melons and pitch to another worker gently places them in the designated bin/transport vehicle. Make sure that plants are picked clean of all produce of correct size and maturity according to supervisor's instructions being careful not to bruise or damage produce. Walk through assigned row while bending and reaching to pick ripe blueberries by hand without bruising or damaging the fruit or bush. Workers must use care to pick bushes clean of all berries of the correct color and size (at least 95%), as instructed by their supervisor. Green berries must not be picked. When picking blueberries, workers will carefully place picked berries into buckets that are strapped around their waists. Once all buckets are full, workers will carry buckets to the trailer that is moving through the field. Buckets will then be emptied into trays that are inspected for quality and weighed. Workers will participate in irrigation activities with minor repairs to the system. Set up and operate irrigation equipment. Workers will stake and tie. Remove stakes, string, and plastic. Operate, minor repair, clean and maintain farm equipment and vehicles. or designated employees as the needs of the operation dictate. Workers will clean greenhouse, spray nursery, weed, dig ditches, and clean production areas and facilities.

Special Requirements

Three-month experience manually planting, cultivating, harvesting, grading, sorting, and packing; Blueberries, Vegetables, Watermelons, Tomatoes, Cantaloupes, Greens, Melons, Cabbages, Corn, Onions or similar crops. Workers must be 18 years or older. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. Criminal background checks may be conducted post-hire at the employer's expense. Lifting requirement of up to 40 lbs. Workers may be offered more than the standard hours of work in a single workday. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available. Hours of work may increase/decrease depending on crop yield and or weather and can occur at any time throughout the season. Workers may stand in one place for any period of time. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach and lift.
