Job description
The workers will have the task of planting, weeding, and harvesting produce. The crops include strawberries, tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, apples, peaches, peppers, squash, pumpkins, sweet corn,
cherries, plums and pears. It will require the worker to be bent over several hours a day in inclement weather if necessary. The tasks must be performed quickly and repetitively several hours a day. The worker must be able
to walk down the rows to harvest, and when picking the fruits occasionally climb a step ladder. The tools for harvesting will be provided by the employer at no cost to the employee. Normally the smaller fruits will be picked in
buckets and transported for sorting and packing. For the larger produce the employee will need to bend over and pick up the produce and tossed to the next employee until it is placed on a truck or wagon. This could require
the laborer to be able to lift a 50-pound melon from the ground and tossing it to the next employee. Employees will hoe and pull weeds pre harvest and clean up the fields after harvest. This can include removing the plastic
used for the raised beds, the t-tape used for irrigation of the crops, and in the case of tomatoes removing the stakes and strings used to tie the crop up. Pruning the fruit trees as well as caring for the bedding plants both early and later in the season is also required.
Special Requirements
This type of work, involves working conditions that require tremendous stamina, a high level of physical activity in cold or extremely
hot conditions in direct sunlight and in adverse weather such as rain. The work requires a high level of physical conditioning. Due to
the type of work involved, if worker can not maintain the level of production set forth by the farmer, the worker will have to be
terminated for being unable to complete the work as deemed in this order.
