Job description

CREW LEADER
• Direct and monitor the work of harvest crew workers and report to the Foreman/Supervisor regarding workers’ harvest quantity and quality as determined by the Grower standards (appearance and weight)
• Under the direction of the Foreman/Supervisor, assist with training harvesters on proper harvesting and packaging methods
• Promotes a pleasant and healthy work environment
• Conducts daily communication of work orders, safety reminders, and motivational pep talk
• Leads daily warm-up exercises
• Ensures employees take their rest and meal breaks per state regulations
• Addresses employee suggestions and concerns in a timely and fair fashion
• Informs employees of pesticide application and follows proper protocol to avoid having them in contact with pesticides
• Mitigates safety risk by observing safety policies and addressing safety concerns with workers and reporting to Foremen in a timely manner
• Ensures harvesters do not run in the field
• Maintains work area clean and free of objects that may cause accidents
• Reports work-related injuries per Company policy
• Under the direction of the Foreman, delivers monthly/weekly safety tailgate meetings
• Inspects equipment such as bathroom trailers, farm equipment, and vehicles are in safe and operable conditions
• Perform daily knife cleaning, disinfecting
• Perform daily food lunch container sanitation and return to food provider by end of each workday
• Ensure drinking water jug and drinking cups are fully stocked and in clean working order
• Ensure bathrooms and break areas are in clean working order and fully stocked
• Ensure First Aid kit is fully stocked; report supply requests to Field Safety Manager
• Ensure crew workers have all necessary equipment, knives, gloves, overshoes, etc.
• Accounts for all harvesters via daily attendance tracking
• Retains appropriate number of harvesters to meet production demands, report shortages to Area Supervisor
• Reviews and handles personal leaves of absence request and paperwork and monitors return to work dates in a timely fashion
• Submits sick time requests for processing in a timely fashion
• By the direction of HR or Area Supervisor, completes and submits termination notices for resignation and job abandonments in a timely fashion
• Accurately completes daily crew timesheets and enters information into PetTiger; drop timesheets at the end of each day in the housing drop box
• Ensures the exact and correct times are recorded; No rounding of time is allowed, must be exact minute
• Ensures the correct product labeling (ie: stickers, product lot#, dates) are accurate per Grower specifications
• Maintain Crew Leader Binder; ensure that it is always on the bus and available to employees
• May be asked to perform other daily reporting (ie: Covid Checks, Bus/Van Cleaning Log, Tailgates, Accident/Injury Reports, etc)
• Attends periodic Safety and HR meetings
• Follow and abide by all local, state, and federal laws and regulations

Special Requirements

Minimum Job Qualifications: 3 Months experience driving and harvesting lettuce crops and/or training preferred. Class B Drivers License with Passenger Endorsement, Class C Drivers License required for training opportunity.

Ability to read and speak English to comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must pass DOT (Department of Transportation) recognized medical exam and fulfill all other DOT requirements. Demonstrate sufficient dexterity of hands, arms and fingers to be able to perform the principal responsibilities of the job to position, and move materials and equipment. Regularly required to sit. Stand, sit, bend, kneel, stretch and squat and walk while using best practices to maintain strong long term personal health.
