Job description

Crops/Commodities: vegetables,watermelon, peas, string beans,cantaloupe, sweet potatoes,sweet corn, squash, tomatoes,and strawberries.

This job requires a minimum of three months of verifiable prior experience working on a diversified crop farm handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. Workers must be able to perform all duties of entry-level workers as well as perform additional mechanized activities with accuracy and efficiency. Cultivates and harvest vegetables. May spread plastic or other ground covering. Weeds,thins, plants. Picks, cuts, lifts, or pulls crop to harvest them. May tie vegetables in bunches or top them. Crops grown on one or more farms include string beans, peas, watermelon and cantaloupes, sweet potatoes, sweet corn, squash, tomatoes, and strawberries. Workers may work on planters, planting seeds and transplanting seedlings. Workers may cultivate and weed as needed and assist with irrigation and fertilization. Workers must also stake/tie plants. Workers will trellis and prune plants. Workers Will pick produce as it ripens. Considerable stooping and kneeling is required. Care must be taken to prevent damaging produce and plants.

Work may also include mechanized field work using power equipment. By way of example and not limitation power equipment may include tractors, planters, sprayers, cultivators and other equipment. Workers will be expected to be able to operate agricultural equipment with or without direction. Equipment should be operated in a manner to protect the operator, other workers, crops and equipment. Repeated failure to obey safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination.

Special Requirements

This job requires a minimum of three months of verifiable prior experience working on a diversified crop farm handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 60 lbs. Employer-paid post-hire upon suspicion and post-accident drug testing required. Any employee who declines to take or fails a drug test will be immediately terminated and paid for all hours worked, if any. Persons seeking employment as experienced farmworker must be available for the entire period requested by the employer.
