Job description
Work will be performed aboard a shrimp fishing trawler in the Gulf of Mexico Zone EEZ depending on the amount of catch and/ or expansion of fishing grounds. Job requires worker to prepare trawlers for fishing activities; using and placing nets into water and retrieving them, sorting, and heading (removing head) from shrimp using handheld tools such as knives; place shrimp into containers and icing down shrimp to preserve the catch; mopping and cleaning work area and equipment. Employer will pay prevailing wage or a % of the total catch profits (usually 30 to 35% or higher, split between a crew of 3 to 4 maximum), whichever is greater.
Special Requirements
Worker must be able to work aboard a fishing trawler in slightly turbulent waters for periods longer than a couple of weeks to up to several months. Must have knowledge of basic safety aboard a fishing trawler. Employer does not provide training for these positions. Must have 3 months experience having worked on Shrimp Fishing Trawler.
