Job description
***RFI Response #2***
Primary Role of Helpers: Helpers perform tasks that are supportive in nature and do not involve independent decision-making or advanced technical expertise. Tasks Requiring Clarification: Certain tasks listed in the original job description, such as "covering roofs with layers of roofing felt" or "attaching roofing paper and composition shingles," were intended to describe support actions (e.g., handing materials, aligning layers under supervision) rather than independent execution of these duties. Helpers do not perform these tasks without direct oversight and guidance from skilled roofers. Helpers perform these tasks only in a supportive capacity. The nature of their involvement is limited to less skilled, supervised contributions that are preparatory or logistical.
***RFI Response #1***
Helpers—Roofers (47-3016.00) involve tasks requiring significantly less skill compared to those performed by Roofers (47-2181.00) or even junior roofers. Helpers primarily support skilled roofers by performing basic, repetitive tasks such as carrying materials, cleaning surfaces, or preparing work areas, which do not necessitate advanced training or technical expertise. They are not responsible for installing, repairing, or constructing roofing systems, which are more complex duties reserved for trained roofers. Additionally, helpers do not typically operate specialized equipment or tools independently; instead, they assist under direct supervision. Unlike roofers or junior roofers, helpers lack the knowledge required for tasks like reading blueprints, calculating roof dimensions, or applying specific roofing techniques. Their contributions are essential to the overall process but are limited to physical labor and logistical support. This distinction emphasizes that their role requires minimal training and no specialized skill set compared to their more experienced counterparts.
