Job description

All job duties will be performed in the field and on the farm.

Field Workers: picking, sort and package quality strawberry as per shipping order approximately 6 hours a day bending over in cool, warm, and hot temperatures, Workers will walk in 13 inch dirt rows through out day with picking cart provided, checking quality. Workers will use hand tools, till soil, transplant, removal and installation of irrigation system/lines, applying and removing /pulling plastic, planting, thin and prune crops, shoveling, weeding, labor work, forklift and tractor work if /when needed, training will be provided, but when not performing any of this work, worker will be harvesting strawberries. Food safety functions, Workers may occasionally and/or sporadically perform duties associated with and directly related to field work, including but not limited to packing strawberries, closing/stacking/ loading boxes (empty/filled) in and around the field, checking quality, cleanup functions in and around the field. Such work will be temporary and insubstantial agricultural labor. The employer hereby confirms that the amount of time spent hand weeding is intermittent and is estimated at 10% of the workers' scheduled hours. The workers are provided gloves (if or when required) and training at no cost. Specifically, they are given time each day to warm up, and are given trainings regarding avoiding work-related injuries on a regular basis. The workers are not provided knee pads because the workers will not be kneeling for any of the job duties. The employer attests that any thinning, hoeing, weeding, or hand-weeding work will be performed in compliance with 8 Cal. Code Regulations Section 3437, 3456(b-c).
May operate agricultural equipment on the farm as needed.
Workers who possess a valid class C California driver’s license or equivalent, and meet all applicable legal requirements, including holding a doctor’s certificate as required by 29 CFR § 500.105, may be asked to drive vehicles for transporting workers, goods, or commodities on company business. This task is voluntary, compensable, and not a mandatory job duty. Workers without a valid driver’s license or doctor’s certificate will still be fully eligible for employment and are not disqualified from any other job responsibilities outlined in this application. The employer can and will make alternative arrangements for the transportation of workers should the need arise.

Special Requirements

There is 3 months minimum strawberry harvest experience requirement. Can not be colorblind due to the need to distinguish colors of crops. Must be able to use both hands and able to use agricultural tools. No smoking, illegal drugs, alcohol, or weapons of any sort in the dormitories or work site / fields. Ability to communicate in English or Spanish is required for training and safety purposes.
