Job description

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Perform manual labor to hand cut, pack, and re-pack watermelons in the field and in packing house. Duties also include cleaning, loading, and unloading harvested products from watermelon truck into packing house. Packing house is on the farm with 100% of product belonging to Atlantic Produce Growers. Use hand tools such as: shovels, hoes, brooms, scissors, shears, and knives. Grade and sort products according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel and quality to ensure correct processing and usage. Discard inferior or defective products and/or foreign matter, and place acceptable products in containers for further processing. Weigh products or estimate their weight, visually or by feel. Place products in containers according to grade and mark grades on containers. Measure, weigh and count products and materials. Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure that packing specifications are met. Workers may perform manual labor to pull plastic and weeds from the fields. Workers may drive forklift to load watermelons onto a trailer. Removal of irrigation equipment.

Workers who possess a valid driver’s license and meet all applicable legal requirements, including holding a doctor’s certificate as required by 29 CFR § 500.105, may be asked to drive vehicles for transporting workers, goods, or commodities on company business. This task is voluntary, compensable, and not a mandatory job duty. Workers without a valid driver’s license or doctor’s certificate will still be fully eligible for employment and are not disqualified from any other job responsibilities outlined in this application. The employer can and will make alternative arrangements for the transportation of workers should the need arise.

Special Requirements

3 months of experience specific to a particular agricultural task, or general farm work. Must be 18 years or older. All tools, supplies and equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. The majority of the day is spent on ones feet. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach, and lift. Lifting Requirement is 5 - 60 lbs. Worker must be able to withstand working in the direct sunlight and weather conditions ranging from hot and humid weather, moderate rain and cold while performing their required job duties. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phone can only be used during breaks, emergencies, and communicated with supervisor when needed.
