Job description
Worker will be required to complete the following activities as directed by supervisor: plant, transplant, weed, stake, trim, prune, spray, maintain, and hand harvest to quality standards vegetable, fruit and flower crops; prepare fields/soil for planting; maintain equipment, fields, fences, and farm property; assemble, disassemble, operate and repair irrigation equipment; general greenhouse tasks including cleaning, transplanting, seeding, moving plants, and watering; apply fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides; assemble and clean bins/containers; lay plastic/mulch weed barriers; load/unload crops; drive and operate tractor with attachments, forklift, and other farm equipment to perform farm tasks; drive employer provided vehicle to and from the worksite and to other locations; transport employer’s crops to market and storage locations with all locations allowing workers to reasonably return within same workday; assist with additional duties related to crop harvest.
Pay will be hourly.
Special Requirements
Job requires worker to complete tasks in general farm labor and planting and harvesting of Beans, Bush, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Cantaloupe, Cauliflower, Celery, Corn, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Gourd, Kohlrabi, Lettuce, Head, Okra, Onion, Peppers, Pumpkins, Spinach, Squash, Strawberries, Tomatillos, Tomatoes, Watermelons, Raspberries, Flowers, Herbs, Garlic, Rhubarb and Asparagus. Employer will provide instructions and training on specific job duties.
Experience Requirement: 3 months experience in commercial hand harvest of produce including experience operating farm equipment in an English-speaking business required. Must have proper certification/license recognized by the state of Michigan to drive. Applicants must furnish job references from employers within the last 5 years establishing acceptable prior experience.
