Job description
The Nursery/Sod Worker (Farmworker) position is a temporary/seasonal position and directly tied to our sod/turfgrass growing season/production season. The Nursery/Sod Worker (Farmworker) will perform various activities associated with growing grass and sod on our farm. The activities will be exclusively performed in an outdoor environment. The workers will aid in soil preparation, including removing rocks from the fields and farm area. They will sod large areas, sow grass seed, sod grass, cut, roll, and load sod with forklift in accordance with supervisor's instructions. Water, monitor, trim, weed, load, transport, and discard sod. Irrigation set up and operation. Bag certified grass seed. Perform other activities associated with growing grass and sod in a nursery. Hours may vary based on weather and crop conditions. Due to the lack of a legal qualified work force, our farm must implement the use of H-2A foreign workers. This program will ensure that our seasonal crops and our substantial investment, is not compromised or put at risk. Job duties will include: cut, roll, and stack sod, operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops, sow grass seed, or plant plugs of grass. Perform various activities associated with growing grass and sod on our farm. The activities will be exclusively performed in an outdoor environment. They will sow grass seed (sod grass) cut, roll and load sod with fork lift in accordance with supervisors instructions. Water, monitor, trim, weed, load, transport and discard sod. Irrigation set up and operation.
Special Requirements
Perform other activities associated with growing grass and sod in a nursery. Hours per week on average 45 hours based on weather and crop conditions. Employer will conduct post-hire drug tests at no cost to the employee to enforce a drug free workplace policy. Failing a drug test will result in termination. Job requires exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures, extensive pushing or pulling, extensive sitting or walking, frequent stooping or bending over, repetitive movements. Must be able to lift 75 lbs. Must have a regular driver's license. Requires 3 months farm experience.
