Job description

This job is of a seasonal nature. A full season of breeding on the poultry farm is approximately 11 months long, which is the duration of the job opportunity. The duration of the job is necessary because the chicks are brought to the farm between 21 to 22 1/2 weeks old, and they are kept until approximately 62/63 weeks of age (approximately 41 weeks or 10 months). Once the birds are removed from the farm after 41 weeks/10 months, the workers will spend time intensely cleaning up the houses and preparing for the next round of chicks, which takes approximately 3-5 weeks.

This breeding season already began for this poultry farm in late November 2024 and the current chicks will remain on the farm until the beginning of October 2025. The workers will be joining with the season already underway and are only joining the farm for a little more than 6 months of the typical 11-month season. They will care for the current chicks until they leave at the beginning of October 2025. The workers will then use the remaining time until the end date of October 31, 2025 to intensely clean and prepare for the next round of chicks.

The work hours consist of 7-hour days: 8:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. Total hours per week is 42. Workers will have one day off per week, which will rotate every week for each worker, so that there is someone available for egg collection each day. For example, Worker #1 might have Sunday off on Week 1 (one), but will rotate to having Monday off on Week 2 (two). Worker #2 might have Monday off on Week 1 (one) and then Tuesday off on Week 2 (two).

The hired hand is responsible for egg collection on the poultry farm, including daily collection of eggs, disinfection and washing of the eggs, ensuring good egg quality by feeling the shell, and storage of the eggs. The worker is also expected to ensure that the hens appear healthy, have access to food and water, and that the pens are clean and not in need of repair.

Special Requirements

Repetitive bending and stooping is required to pick up the eggs daily. Workers may
be required to stand for up to 4 hours at a time. There is no previous experience necessary and no minimum education required. Once hired, the worker may be required to take a random drug test at no cost to the worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment.
