Job description

Clearing ground of rocks, sticks & roots by hand, clear brush and trees with chain saw. Use wood to build and repair potato boxes for digger. Preparing the ground for planting. Manually weeding fields by hand or using hand tools. Participate in irrigation activities. Drain water from fields with hand tools and shovel when needed. Move hay. Set up and operate irrigation systems. Load & unload boxes on truck’s trailer. Maintain and clean all hand tools and mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Wash and clean farm buildings and equipment. Sweet Potatoes – Covering potatoes with use of bedding machine. Cover, punch holes, and remove plastic and paper from plant beds. Cut slips by hand with a knife, place in boxes to load & unload onto trucks. Walk behind potato transplanter and fill in slips by hand. Riding mechanical transplanter and loading slips in planting cups. Divining plants by hand. May transport workers to fields and grocery stores.

Special Requirements

Must be 18 years old or older. The employer may conduct a criminal background check. Three (3) months experience needed in hand cutting slips and use of mechanical transplanter. A valid driver's license is required to transport workers to field and grocery stores. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phones can only be used during breaks, emergencies, and communicated with supervisor when needed. Lifting requirement many have a range of 5 to 60 lbs. All tools, supplies and equipment will be provided at no cost to the workers. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Most of the workday is spent in agricultural fields and involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, cold, humid, and other natural elements.
