Job description
The temporary workers will work in a watermelon production on farms according to instructions from the supervisor.
The work will vary from time to time depending on crop ripening and weather. The fruit planting, field work, and harvesting is
temporary and will end in the foreseeable future, specifically on June 20, 2024.
The temporary workers will be aiding with duties such as:
•Field work preparing the fields for planting. This task consists of putting down and taking off the ground cloth, digging trenches,
installing, and repairing irrigation, planting, weeding, moving farm equipment and other miscellaneous work throughout the growing season.
•Watermelon hand harvesting in which the worker must be able to walk down the field row and use a knife to hand-cut ripe
watermelons off the vine for harvesting. The worker must be able to reach, pull, push watermelons which will be loaded in a bus
by forming part of an assembly line unloaded truck ,forklift and grading watermelon . This process begins with a worker bending down to pick up the watermelon and it is passed on to consecutive workers by passing, catching, lifting, until it reaches the worker on the bus, who then sets it down and stacks them until the bus is considered full.
•Row crop harvesting in which the worker must be able to walk down the field row and use a knife or bare hand to hand cut ripe
row crops off the vine for harvesting. The row crops are then gently placed in the fruit container until it is filled, taking care to not
overfill or over pack the container. These containers will be taken to a loading truck and the empty container is given back to the
worker to start the process again. Field drivers will move farm equipment
•Workers must possess the physical strength and endurance for repetitive tasks such as being able to walk, bend, stoop and
carry from 70-80 lbs.
•Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, ability to get along with other workers.
•Knowing how to use the tools and equipment required. Clean workplace and equipment as required.
Special Requirements
The employee must be responsible and consistent at work. The employee must be able to lift 0 to 80 pounds, perform repetitive movements, push and pull extensively, walk, bend frequently throughout the day, and work in all weather conditions.
At any time during the employment contract period, employees may be subject to random drug testing at no cost to them.
All drug tests, if conducted, may be performed after employees begin work and are not part of the interview process. Employees who fail to submit to a drug test or refuse one will be immediately terminated.
