Job description

The General Farm Ranch Hand position will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of cattle, grain and hay. Duties will include the following: check physical characteristics, observe general condition of
livestock and apply the appropriate care, examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain to determine delivery time, assist in delivery and night calving, apply or administer medications/vaccines, mix
feed/additives and feed/water livestock , fill and move feeders for the calves; place mineral blocks, drive equipment, herd livestock to various pastures, drive 4-wheeler to move livestock; confine livestock in stalls, clean/disinfect livestock corrals/stalls/sheds, dock, castrate, brand, clip/tag and clamp livestock. WE DO NOT FEED livestock during the summer months when the cattle feed on range lands and drink from natural water sources and automatic watering troughs. In the fall the worker will assist with the weaning and processing of
calves. Worker will be required to operate farm equipment for planting, grain production and harvesting of hay; hoist/stack bales of hay onto wagon/truck, basic fence maintenance of existing fence lines, pick rocks, perform general
cleanup of farm acreage, and drive/load/unload semi-trucks (on the ranch only). Worker may be required to perform basic mechanical repairs and maintenance on farm equipment. Worker must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision. The job entails working
with farm animals and machinery, outdoors in all types of weather (extreme heat, wind, dust and cold) and occasional exposure to herding hazards. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds.

Increased wages and or bonus may be possible depending of experience.

Note we are filing late this year, true dates of need are March 1- Nov 15 of each year.

Special Requirements

Employer provided items (at no cost to the worker): All tools and equipment necessary to perform the duties assigned as well as transportation between worker(s) on-site housing and the work site. A cell phone or two-way radio will be provided for emergency and ranch communications at no cost to the worker (excluding long distance charges).
The expected work schedule may be required in a split shift due to the nature of the job duties. Hours may vary due to weather, time of year and the requirements of the job. Work may be offered more than the specified hours per day, but only required to work the hours specified. Work may be offered 7 days a week but only required 6 days a week.
