Job description
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of honey and honey bees.
General Beekeeping Work will include the following responsibilities: assemble beehives; open hive and feed bees; place pollen patties into hives; insert frames of bees into beehive or induct bees wild swarming into hive of prepared frames; set hives near source of nectar and pollen; destroy superfluous queen bee cells; cultivate bees to produce bee colonies and queen bees; make bee nucs; check health of hives; medicate bees; prepare bee colonies for winter; add and remove supers from hive; uncap harvested honeycombs and extract honey; extract honey; fill drums with honey and move to storage using hand cart; place empty supers in storage; transfer damaged hive equipment and replace equipment; operate/tend machines used in the production if honey; inspect maintain, and make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences; remove emptied honeycombs from machine and places them in vacant supers; cut caps from honeycombs; gather supers (bee boxes) and load and secure onto flatbed truck; secure supers on the truck using straps and/or ropes; remove and roll straps and/or ropes; drive, load/unload farm trucks on, or between, farm worksites; maintain/repair/replace/move temporary fencing; mow/remove weeds and grass around hives and farm areas; perform general clean-up of farm/bee/garden/orchard areas; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.
Special Requirements
Applicants must have 1 month experience with beekeeping and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid Drivers License as driving on public roads may be required.
