Job description
Employees duties will include working in tobacco, cotton, and peanut fields. They will also work at the tobacco curing barns and grading room. Their jobs will be to top, sucker, harvest leaves and remove weeds from tobacco fields. They will also be cleaning and doing field maintenance like hoeing, raking and laying and picking up irrigation pipe, camp sanitation in and around cotton and peanut fields. They will remove weeds for cotton and peanut fields. Also, during periods of wet weather conditions workers will dig drainage ditches by hand with a shovel or hoe or both to remove excess water from the fields. They will load harvested leaves to tobacco into curing bins at the barns for the tobacco to be dried out and cured. After the curing process is completed, workers will unload tobacco from curing bins and grade through the leaves removing any undesired leaves and foreign material before loading the leaves into a baler to be compressed into a bale to be delivered to the tobacco company. Workers will assist in loading the trailer with tobacco bales for delivery to market. All this work will be done under extreme weather conditions (high humidity, hot temperatures). Excessive bending over and lifting 52 pounds will be involved on a daily basis.

2 DAY TRAINING WITH EMPLOYER. The training period for all crop activities is 2 days starting with the first day of employment to acclimate the worker to the physical demands of farm work and to familiarize workers with the job specifications and to demonstrate proper harvest methods and other crop specific issues.
