Job description
Duties include planting, transplanting, weeding, destaking, stringing crop, cutting string laying and taking up plastic. Prepare fields for planting and perform other related Farm Worker activities as per SOC/OES 45-2092. Walk
down rows with plant tray and manually plants seeds or plants into the ground and cover with dirt. Plant by machine. Walk behind the machine making sure all holes are filled and covered. Workers will utilize hand tools such as shovels, shears, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, buckets, and knives. Manually harvest using buckets which are then walk and dumped into a sorting table on the trailer pulled by a tractor. Package in field into boxes. Repeatedly stoop to pick up squash, zucchini, eggplant, broccoli, variety of greens, cabbage, variety of peppers, cucumbers, pickles, peanuts and tomatoes. Weed cotton fields. Workers must make sure all products are of correct size and maturity (at least 90%) or as instructed by supervisor. Make boxes, clean, grade, load and unload harvested products, or place into bins/boxes for shipment by size, weight, color or condition. Complete field cleanup activities after harvest. Prune weeds, prune crop and maintain fields. Workers who apply for and obtain an FLC or FLC employee certificate of registration with driving authorized by USDOL Wage and Hour Division during the employment period may drive the bus or other transportation vehicles to transport workers from the housing unit to worksites, between worksites, or drive to town to allow workers to shop and may be offered additional work hours. Workers are responsible for farm field sanitation including picking up trash. Weed and sucker tobacco. Harvest tobacco, stripping the stalk of all leaves and placing into tobacco trailer being pulled in field alongside workers. Pick any loose leaves off ground into crates which are lifted and loaded into assigned tobacco barn to be cooked. After cooked, crates are pulled from barn and pack cooked tobacco into bales. Load bales onto the truck. Wash selected products. Measure and weigh products or estimate, visually or by feel. Products are graded and sorted according to specified factors and defective, inferior and/or foreign matter is discarded. Acceptable products are placed in specified locations. Stack boxes onto pallets, transport vehicle or trailers. Employees with adequate driving authorization may operate vehicle. Assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies. Work is very fast paced during busy season. Three months of farm work experience is required. Workers will be required to lift and carry 50lbs . Work is in extremely hot, cold, and/or wet conditions. Perform repetitive walking, stooping, bending and reaching for prolonged periods of time. Workers are expected to posses the skills to work in the production of crops listed in this job order. The introductory period for all crop activities is 2 days starting with the first day of employment to acclimate the worker to the physical demands of farm and to familiarize workers with the job specifications and to demonstrate proper harvest methods and other crop specific issues. Workers must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor. Workers must take care to handle tools, equipment and produce in a manner to avoid injury or damage. The employer will comply with all federal, state and local safety requirements. Operational specifications can change during the season due to crop or market conditions. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each days work. Instructions and general supervision will be provided by the employer or a designated employee. Workers will have close supervision to insure adherence to instructions. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality. Use of personal cell phone or other personal electronic device during working hours strictly prohibited.
Special Requirements
Prolonged walking, standing, bending, stooping and reaching in extremely hot/cold temperatures with inclement weather. Work requires repetitive movements, pushing, pulling, and or lifting minimum 50 pounds. Being under the influence of any drugs or alcohol during work is strictly prohibited. Hindering coworkers productivity is prohibited. Any personal electronic device and personal cellphone use during work is strictly prohibited. Violation of these rules will be disciplined as follows First offense: Oral warning and correction. Second offense: Written warning. Third/Final Offense: immediate job termination. Worker will be asked to sign written fact statement.
