Job description
Job duties include constant and consistent monitoring and maintenance of crop inventory and evaluation of quality of crops before sale. Worker will participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, post-harvest treatment of crops; mark melons for identification; package melons for further processing or to be shipped after sale. Worker will be required to consistently check melons in the field and melon boxes in the cooler throughout the day to verify compliance with quality standards. Worker must be able to identify any bruising or other damage, and check melon size and color.
Special Requirements
To have a strong understanding of melon quality standards, the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment, and a working knowledge of food safety regulations.
Qualifications:
Agriculture or a related field experience working in production environments
Proven experience in a quality control or quality assurance role, ideally within the melon commodity or at minimum fresh produce industry
Strong knowledge of food safety standards and/or HACCP
Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively
Job requires having or being able to obtain a valid Class C (non-commercial) driver's license within 30 days of hire. Basic English literacy and math skills are required. Criminal background checks may occur post-hire at the employer's expense.
