Job description
Drive and operate cotton farming equipment such as tractors, ATVs, and self-propelled machinery to till soil, prepare fields, and plant cotton; Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on cotton-related machinery, vehicles, and implements; Set up and manage irrigation equipment, including laying pipes, maintaining ditches, and ensuring sufficient water supply for cotton crops; Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides using hand sprayers and other equipment to support plant health and prevent pest infestations; Conduct regular inspections of cotton fields to monitor crop development, identify pest activity, and assess overall plant health; Plant cotton seeds using appropriate planting methods and equipment, including seed drills and planters; Cultivate cotton crops through manual or mechanical means, including weeding and applying soil amendments as needed; Operate machinery to irrigate, cultivate, and harvest cotton, adjusting implements and equipment for optimal performance; Harvest cotton, ensuring care is taken to preserve fiber quality; Load and unload cotton modules and bales into trucks or storage containers, maintaining organized and efficient flow; Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport cotton around the farm and gin facility; Operate and maintain cotton processing equipment, including module feeders, gin stands, lint cleaners, and bale presses, to convert raw cotton into baled fiber; Wrap, weigh, and label processed cotton bales for storage or shipment according to industry standards; Monitor machinery during ginning operations, adjusting settings as necessary to ensure proper function and fiber quality; Maintain cleanliness and efficiency in ginning and storage areas through regular cleaning and inspection; Track cotton inventory by recording bale counts, storage locations, and processing data; Perform general farm labor including grounds maintenance, debris removal, and upkeep of work areas; Report mechanical issues or equipment malfunctions to supervisors for timely resolution.
There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. Workers may be asked, but are not required, to work on their Sabbath.
