Job description

Nolan Farms & Equipment is a seasonal row crop farm operation that plants and cultivates peanuts, corn, and cotton on a yearly basis. The reason the job is seasonal is due to the planting and harvest seasons of the row crops. The position involves a wide range of responsibilities related to agricultural operations, equipment operation, and maintenance. Duties include preparing fields for planting and operating various farm machinery such as tractors, plows, discs, sprayers, planters, seed drills, manure spreaders, and irrigation equipment. The role requires performing planting, weeding, spraying, fertilizing, and harvesting activities, including applying pesticides and fertilizers using hand or mechanical sprayers. The worker will install, maintain, and repair pivot and sprinkler irrigation systems, as well as load and unload crops or materials manually or with equipment like conveyors, forklifts, hand trucks, or augers. Additional tasks include loading hoppers and monitoring equipment functions to ensure proper operation. The job also includes significant mechanical and maintenance responsibilities. Workers will be expected to inspect, maintain, and repair farm machinery and vehicles, including dismantling, diagnosing, and repairing engines and equipment using tools such as wrenches, welders, grinders, and milling machines. This includes fabricating replacement parts, performing electrical repairs, testing mechanical systems, and maintaining detailed records of maintenance and repairs. Irrigation system installation and plumbing repair are also key duties. Regular cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of parts to ensure machinery operates efficiently is essential. Additionally, the position requires driving trucks with capacities greater than three tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport crops, tools, and supplies. Duties related to transportation include performing safety inspections, securing cargo, operating GPS and communication devices, performing minor roadside repairs, and complying with state and federal transportation regulations. Workers must load and unload materials, inspect trailer conditions, read maps, follow delivery instructions, and maintain vehicle safety standards. Throughout all tasks, maintaining the worksite to established standards and following appropriate safety procedures is required. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, experience operating heavy machinery, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion. Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.

Special Requirements

Job requires exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures, extensive sitting or walking. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must have a Class C CDL or equivalent or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire. Requires 3 months farm experience.
