Crops: Coffee

Workers will be harvesting mature coffee cherries in orchards owned and maintained by Greenwell Farms. Inc. The harvest in process includes being able to stand for multiple hours, picking coffee cherries, and carrying them on a waist basket. Pickers need to empty their waist baskets into burlap bags; tie,lift, carry these bags and put them onto delivery trucks. Other tasks include pruning of coffee trees, removing the weeds around the crop, planting and transplanting of coffee trees, the spraying of pesticides and other farm maintenance tasks such as cutting grass, weeds, or other invasive plants in the coffee farms.

Periodically during the contract period, workers may be used as laborers in the pulp mill and dry mill (where coffee cherry is pulped and dried into the parchment and then stored). Their work there will include, unloading full coffee bags of cherry, moving full coffee bags of coffee cherry around the mill, dumping coffee cherry into vats for processing, loading and unloading coffee driers, and general clean up around the mills.

Workers who possess a valid driver’s license and meet all applicable legal requirements, including holding a doctor’s certificate as required by 29 CFR § 500.105, may be asked to drive vehicles for transporting workers, goods, or commodities on company business. This task is voluntary, compensable, and not a mandatory job duty. Workers without a valid driver’s license or doctor’s certificate will still be fully eligible for employment and are not disqualified from any other job responsibilities outlined in this application. The employer can and will make alternative arrangements for the transportation of workers should the need arise.

Special Requirements

Workers must have at least 3 months of verifiable work on a coffee farm. Specific requirements include lifting up to 100 pounds.
