Job description

The workers will spend a majority of the workdays (>51%) performing jobs specific to the open range and attending to livestock: herd livestock to pasture for grazing; train horses for cattle herding, haul and deliver feed to livestock; check stock water; examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; apply medications and treat cuts and bruises; spray livestock with insecticides; trap and load livestock in water lots; rope, restrain, and load livestock of all ages and sizes into trailers; haul livestock; load/unload livestock feed; assist with repairing fences, water troughs, water lines, feeders, pens, and load outs; and perform individual plant treatment (IPT) spray herbicide on plants that are poisonous or dangerous to the livestock or livestock water facilities and/or production.
Minimum of the workday, they will herd livestock to corrals to assist in castration and dehorning of livestock; ID tag, ear notch, and/or brand animals; assists with the vaccination of livestock.
Must be able to ride and handle horses in a manner to assure the safety of the worker, co-worker, and livestock. Must be able to find and maintain bearings to grazing areas. Must be willing and able to occasionally live and work independently or in small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods of time. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid U.S. driver's license with in 30 days of beginning job.
Applicants must have 6 months of experience in similar occupations involving the herding or production of livestock on the range and must provide references to verify their experience.

Workers will be subject to a post employment criminal background check and/or drug test conducted randomly, upon accident, incidence or suspicion and will be at the expense of the employer.

Special Requirements

The employer confirms that a minimum of (>51%) of the work contract shall be performed on the range for the total number of workdays requested. The ranch consists of hundreds of square miles of ground and is home to many thousand head of livestock. The ranch housing is located on the ranch and is considered traditional style housing, not tented temporary housing which is commonly found in many Range Herder operations. Although workers will be living in fixed site housing, they do not work in the house and do in fact spend their days on the open range. Refer to addendum C for continuation.
