Job description
Landscape or maintain grounds of property using hand or power tools or equipment. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, mulching, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler installation, and installation of mortarless segmental concrete masonry wall units/similar. Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes. Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws. Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, plant flowers or foliage, or install low voltage decorative lighting. Operate vehicles or powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, sod cutters, or pruning saws. Trim or pick flowers and clean flower beds. Attach wires from planted trees to support stakes. Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, or shrubs, and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools. Decorate gardens with stones or plants. Install rock gardens, ponds, decks (workers do not cut wood, they simply assemble pre-cut wood), drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, planters, or playground equipment. Haul or spread topsoil, or spread straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place.
Special Requirements
Requires three months of landscape experience. Must lift/carry up to 100 lbs., when necessary. Saturday and Sunday work required, when necessary. Post-hire upon suspicion of use and post-accident drug testing required of foreign and domestic workers. Post-hire employment eligibility (e-Verify) check required of foreign and domestic workers. Employer may offer more than the stated work hours depending on weather, business needs, and other conditions. Extreme heat, cold, rain, or drought may affect exact working hours.
In accordance with applicable Michigan state law, Earned Sick Time Act 338, employers are required to provide earned sick time to their employees. The amount of paid sick leave provided may vary depending on the size of the business
