Job description

Coffee Workers perform various tasks in weed/vine control, irrigation, pruning, harvesting using both hands and wet/dry coffee processing based on seasonal business need.

-May operate tractor with various interchangeable attachments to perform required work such as spraying, disking, mowing, digging, applying fertilizers, or moving materials. Must control attachments to achieve the desired results and make necessary adjustments as needed. Must connect and disconnect attachments as required.
-Operate ATV as needed to perform required work such as spraying or spreading of pesticides and fertilizers, operating, inspecting, or maintaining drip irrigation systems in assigned fields, perform hand/mechanical weeding of noxious and invasive weeds/vines.
-Utilize personal protective equipment when handling, mixing, or applying pesticides that require their use.
-Make daily reports as required by the supervisor such as using field maps marking areas worked, recording gallons of spray materials used, and hours worked. Recording tensiometer readings, flow meter readings, reservoir levels and weather data.
-Operate motor vehicle equipped with two-way radio to perform work assignments.
-Operate and assist in the maintenance of pumps, filters, gasoline engines and related irrigation equipment.
-Inspects assigned fields and do repairs when malfunctioning pipes, fittings, low pressure, plugged tubing, or other problems prevents proper irrigation applications.
-Maintain and operate chemical treating equipment used in treating irrigation water to minimize plugging.
-Cut down and remove noxious/invasive weeds in the orchard with use of brush cutters, sickles, hedgers, and various other tools. Uses a knapsack to spot spray weeds.
-Obey standard safety regulations and Federal worker protection standards (WPS).
-Will complete Worker Protection Training as well as any other Company directed training.
-Does other related work as required or directed by supervisor.
-Operate, set, and adjust equipment used during the coffee harvest operation.
-Responsible for proper operation and assigned daily settings of coffee harvester or coffee nabber.
-Responsible for daily maintenance, servicing, and cleaning of coffee harvesting equipment.
-Perform various tasks in repair and adjustment of coffee harvesting equipment used during coffee harvest season.
-Direct loader operators to the location for unloading. The operator directs and assists helpers in removing obstructions from the path of the picker, clearing trash from the conveyors, and monitoring quality of fruit picked.
-Operate, control, and adjust Wet and Dry Coffee Plant equipment to maximize throughput with the minimum of losses while maximizing green bean quality in conformance with State of Hawaii, Department of Agriculture standards for Kauai Coffee Grades (Standards).
-Feed, regulate the flow of cherries into and adjusts coffee cherry washing, cherry separation, pulping, demucilaging and drying equipment.
-Load or direct the loading of coffee dryers, monitors dryer operating temperatures and coffee moisture levels, terminates the drying process at predetermined coffee moisture levels, unloads dryers, ensures the proper identification and storage of dry parchment coffee.
-Retrieve or direct the retrieval from storage, parchment or green bean coffee for processing, re-bagging, or shipment. Feeds parchment coffee or green bean coffee into appropriate locations of the plant.
-Adjusts, operate conveying, de-stoner, hulling, polishing, sizing, density sorting and color sorting equipment to ensure efficient, effective operation of the equipment to produce.
-Perform post-season factory teardown and equipment repair.
-Perform quality checks and data gathering on wet plant processing and dry plant output.

Workers must follow housing and transportation rules for the safety and comfort of the workers.

Special Requirements

Must have 3 months verifiable experience working on a coffee farm. Drug testing is conducted at employer's expense: preemployment/
post hire, upon reasonable suspicion, post-accident and at random or periodically to ensure worker safety and drug-free workplace. Must also be capable of lifting 100-pound coffee bags to shoulder height repetitively. Must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and taking instructions in the English language. Must be able to understand work & safety instructions in English or Spanish, the languages spoken and written in the workplace.
