Non-Range Occupations for Field Workers: Agricultural Equipment Operators and Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery and Greenhouse
Job Duties:
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor and defined under 45-2091.00-Agricultural Equipment Operators and 45-2092.00-Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery and Greenhouse, under the heading of Non-Range Occupations for Field Workers and Livestock Workers. Must be able to work with minimum supervision and in extreme weather conditions. Duties may vary from time to time. Preparing the ground for harvesting. Clearing ground of rocks, sticks, and roots by hand, clearing brush, and trees. General field & fence Maintenance. Manually weeding fields by hand or using hand tools. Draining water from fields with hand tools and shovels when needed. Loading & unloading boxes on trucks, trailers, or sweet potato transplanters and/or harvesters. Maintain, and clean all hand tools and equipment prior to and after use. Build or repair barns or potato sheds. Workers may be asked to operate skid steer, tractor, and skid-loader (to load & unload trucks & trailers). May transport workers to field and/or grocery in farm-provided passenger vehicle(s). Soybeans, Peas, Sweet Corn, Watermelons, Pumpkins and Tomatoes: Workers may harvest soybeans, sweet corn, watermelons, pumpkins and tomatoes. Workers may harvest peas. Workers may use hand tools such as knives to harvest products from plants. Workers may shell peas with a pea sheller. Sweet Potatoes: Workers may use mechanical digging equipment to dig potatoes. May harvest sweet potatoes by hand with use of buckets. Must be able to sort, grade, & pack potatoes by size, quality, or type. Workers may be asked to drive trucks to haul supplies, tools, or farm workers and operate farm equipment-driving in-field trucks/ATV’s, skid-steers, forklifts, or tractors using implements including hipper disk, dual, chisel, plow, bush-hog, gravity- flow buggy, and/or mechanical digging equipment. Raises and bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker, at the employer’s discretion, based on individual factors including but not limited to performance, experience, number of hours worked in the season, number of seasons worked with the company, adherence to work rules & ability to follow supervisor instructions.
May transport workers to fields & grocery language: Workers with a clean driving record (no major moving violations such as but not limited to Driving While Intoxicated or Reckless Driving) and able to obtain an insurable driver's license may drive farm-owned vehicles. Employer may provide one or more vehicles to workers (van, bus, or pickup truck) for multi-purpose use on an as needed basis (e.g., driving workers from employer-provided housing directly to the farm, around the farm properties during the work day, and possibly carrying equipment/supplies with them) and this may involve the worker(s) operating the vehicles to reach the other farm properties to perform their work.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be 18 years or older. Three months of experience required in use of mechanical digging equipment. Valid Drivers License required-if asked to drive vehicles. Lifting requirement of 5-60 lbs. The employer may conduct a criminal background check on all new applicants at the employers expense. All tools, supplies, & equipment will be provided at no cost to workers. Safety training for the use of farm equipment & tractors will be provided. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery must be able to communicate with & adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show a proficiency in effectively communicating with management and may therefore place other employees safety at risk.
