Job description

Full time, temporary seasonal position. Pre-Commercial Thinning: Carries fuel, oil, and operates chainsaw, weighing about 30 pounds, cutting trees 15-18 years old, and brush clearing. Undesirable and diseased trees to be cut with a chainsaw. Selected limbs of standing trees will be cut. Trees, limbs, brush that have been cut to be piled and covered for future disposal in a prescribed manner. Spraying when required. SPRAYING: (Only herbicides labeled for forestry applications are used. The position does not mix or load of any herbicide. Mixing and loading is done by a licensed herbicide applicator who oversees all aspects of application. Each worker who sprays herbicide must be licensed with the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Workers are trained both for safety and for technical procedures. The worker will be trained, once hired, to obtain the spraying license.) Create fire breaks prior to wildland fire season.
Commercial Tree Planting: The employee will clear an area with a planting shovel, dig a hole, place a seedling in the hole ensuring that the seedling is not in a "J" root position and cover the hole back up to secure the seedling. The employee must be able to carry a planting bag with a number of seedlings, weighing about 50 lbs, up and down steep, rugged terrain. Install netting and tubing around newly planted trees to ward off animals. Training provided if needed. All work performed in remote areas on steep, 40% - 50%, terrain

Special Requirements

MUST BE ABLE TO PLANT THE FOLLOWING NUMBER OF TREES IN AN 8 HOUR DAY: BY END OF 1ST WEEK - 800,
BY END OF 2ND WEEK - 900, BY END OF 3RD WEEK - 1000 TREES
