Job description
To operate a tractor (front loader tractor) at the mill yard bringing harvested sugar cane from where the farmer has dumped the cane to the location at the factory to begin the manufacturing process. This tractor operator operates the front loader tractor in the mill yard only and it never is used on public streets. A mill receives an estimate of 12,000 tons of harvested sugar cane a day. The farmers' trucks are weighed and then dumped in a designated location where then the tractor operator moves the harvested cane to the mill, which all happens in the immediate vicinity of the sugar mill. This process is a 24/7 operation during the harvesting and manufacturing season of sugar cane.
Minor maintenance to the payloader (tractor) may include checking fluid levels, filling with fuel, checking oil level, and greasing of mechanical parts. The payloader is cleaned by removing debris with brooms, towels, water hose or by hand daily.
Special Requirements
Willing to work 7 days a week in varying 8-hour shifts during the manufacturing of raw sugar cane season. 40hrs a week after harvesting season will be offered until the end of the contract.
Shifts are as follows: 6am-2pm; 2pm-10pm; 10pm-6am
Overtime paid after 48 hours a week during harvesting season.
After harvesting, the workweek is Monday through Thursday (6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
