Job description

Our farming season runs from March through November. We begin preparing fields in March, with planting starting in early to mid-April. Wheat and sugar beets are planted first, followed by potatoes and corn in early May, and finally edible beans and soybeans by the end of May. After planting, we focus on spraying, cultivating, maintaining equipment, and setting up potato storage in preparation for harvest. Wheat harvest begins in mid-August, followed by potatoes in early September. October is dedicated to harvesting sugar beets, beans, and corn. By early November, all equipment is washed, serviced, and stored for the winter. We operate primarily with late-model John Deere equipment, along with a mix of semis and straight trucks. Job duties include preparing fields, attaching and operating farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, and harvesters, and running tractors, planters, sprayers, and seed drills. Workers will be engaged in planting, spraying, weeding, and harvesting activities; loading and unloading crops using conveyors, forklifts, or transfer augers; monitoring equipment for malfunctions; and performing routine maintenance and repairs. Additional tasks include washing and detailing machinery, cleaning and organizing the potato storage and shop, and mowing and maintaining farmyards. Driving an ATV to check irrigation pivots and spray weed with hand sprayer.
