Job description
Work performed under this job order will be directed by the Association who will coordinate with U.S. Sugar Corporation (“U.S. Sugar”) and the Association’s grower-members for the purpose of mechanically harvesting sugarcane and filling hoppers so that the cane can be further transported by rail to U.S. Sugar’s mill.
Workers will operate farm vehicles and equipment, including tractors and tractor-drawn machinery, to mechanically harvest sugarcane. Cane stalks will be mechanically severed from their roots and deposited into a field cart that is moved by tractor to a designated location on the farm for pick up. Workers will ensure hoppers are properly filled and are responsible for cleaning and maintaining the agricultural equipment and work areas.
Workers will set up and operate irrigation equipment and will clear and maintain irrigation
ditches. Workers with drivers’ licenses may transport other workers on and off the farm, using employer-provided vehicles, and may be offered additional hours.
Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Individuals seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer.
Special Requirements
Must possess 3 months prior experience operating 18 wheelers. Agricultural truck drivers must be in possession of a valid drivers license that includes authorization to operate the type of truck used to transport sugarcane. All agricultural truck drivers are required to pass a drug and alcohol test prior to operating equipment that transports sugarcane and must comply with the U.S. Department of Transportation random drug testing program requirements, safety requirements, and good agricultural practices.
