Job description

Landscape or maintain grounds of property using hand or power tools or equipment, which includes edgers, sprayers, blowers, rakes, shovels, hand pruners, and hedge shears. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: planting of winter species trees/shrubs/annuals, winter pruning of trees/shrubs, digging, raking, leaf removal, aeration & overseeding of turf areas, sprinkler winterizations, sodding, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, digging, raking, assisting in the creation of rock gardens, ponds, decks, drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, planters, or playground equipment. There will be no mortar used for segmental retaining wall installations. These devices will “lock” onto themselves with “lips” that are made into the product. They stack on top of each other until the top where a “cap” is glued on. The intent with the workers would be to help bring the individual block segments over to the area and lay them behind the area so their crew leader can place them in place. They may also help hand spread gravel using round point shovels and hard rakes in preparation for the segmental pieces and area behind them. Additionally, workers will not be “installing” as installation is not included within the tasks assigned. For drainage pipes, workers will be placing 4” ADS Corrugated drain tubing (black flexible pipe) into open trenches and covering it up with soil using rakes and shovels. For irrigation systems, workers will be shutting systems down for the winter season (irrigation winterization). This process involves turning the water service valve off and opening the low-point drain valve to let the water drain out using gravity. On some systems they may assist the irrigation technician by connecting an air compressor hose to the irrigation pipes (a 1/2 turn on the hose) and opening the valves to let the air push the water out until no water is left (usually 2 minutes or less per zone). Currently no fence work is planned. Workers will decorate gardens with stones or plants. Due to the autumn and winter festivities, the winter laborers will also be assisting with Christmas and Halloween decorations. Workers will also work on snow removal, hauling or spreading topsoil, or spreading straw over seeded soil to hold the soil in place. Snow shovels will be used to remove snow for snow removal tasks. Care for natural turf fields, ensuring the underlying soil has the required composition to allow proper drainage and support the grasses. And to assist in performing these duties workers will operate small vehicles or powered equipment, such as mowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, sod cutters, or pruning saws. Workers will be using John Deer Mowers to perform mowing duties when needed. Additionally, workers may be asked to drive pick-up trucks such as a Ford F150 provided by the Employer to get to and from the worksite if a valid driver’s license permits. Although mowing season will come to an end in late October, workers may be asked to mow using the John Deere Z960 Lawn Mower. This mower weighs approximately 1,340lb. Workers will not be driving trucks to perform work duties. All winter laborers will be in entry-level positions supervised by a superior or team leader.

Special Requirements

Must lift/carry 50 lbs, when necessary. Saturday and Sunday work is required when necessary. Post-hire random, post-accident, and upon suspicion of use, drug testing is required of foreign and domestic workers paid for by the employer. Post-hire background checks may be required for foreign and domestic workers based on contract requirements. Employers may offer more than the stated work hours depending on weather, business needs, and other conditions. Extreme heat, cold, rain, or drought may affect exact working hours. On-the-job training will be provided to the worker.
