Job description
Farm Equipment Mechanic: Workers will perform various duties all associated with diagnosing, adjusting, repairing and overhauling diesel farm machinery and gas vehicles such as tractors, trucks, farm implements, etc. Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following: • Maintain, repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, forklifts, trailers, any and all equipment used during the planting, production, and harvest of crops. • Record details of repairs made and parts used. • Reassemble machines and equipment following repair, testing operation, and adjusting, as necessary. • Examine and listen to equipment, read inspection reports as to problems determine to be repaired. • Maintain -repair maintenance records. • Inspect mechanical equipment to locate damage, defects, or wear. • Test and replace electrical wiring components for proper functioning, using test meters, soldering equipment, and hand tools. • Test mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning. • Tune or overhaul engines. • Perform routine maintenance on vehicle and farm equipment such as change oil and filters, brakes, brake pads and repair tires. • Knowledgeable and repair in hydraulic systems • Repair or replace defective parts, using hand tools, and grinders. • Repair worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts. • Install machine or equipment replacement parts. • Disassemble equipment for maintenance or repair. • Repair defective engines or engine components. • Adjust vehicle/equipment components to ensure optimal performance, according to specifications. • Reassemble equipment after repair. • Clean equipment, parts, or tools to repair or maintain them in good working order. • Diagnosing, adjust, repair all small engine equipment such as mowers, trimmers and power washers. Replace components, such as carburetors, fuel pumps, generators, ignition points and spark plugs. reassemble, adjust and equipment to ensure efficient operation. May install and repair wiring and motors to maintain farm electrical system. May assist other workers in more complex maintenance tasks, such as overhaul of machinery and equipment.
GENERAL CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL CROPS: Field work begins at assigned time usually shortly after daylight. Work environment will be dirty, dusty and damp, with temperature fluctuations according to the season. Work is performed during light rain and in high humidity and in temperatures ranging from 100+ degrees to below 35 degrees F. Workers must have multi-limb coordination ability while standing, walking and climbing for long periods while pruning and harvesting. Workers will work on their feet in bent position for long periods of time. Workers will supply their own work clothes Workers must be able to lift 75 lbs. consistently throughout the day. Workers will make repetitive movements, extensive pushing, pulling, and walking. Workers may be required to perform work, on the farm, that is incidental to farming the crops listed in the application, such as performing hand cultivation tasks, weeding or hoeing, cleaning and repairing farm buildings, grounds, set up and move aluminum irrigation pipes and equipment, cleaning and maintaining drip irrigation systems, using backpack sprayers, gardening, weeding, shrubbing, etc. This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated.
Special Requirements
All applicants must have at least 6 months experience as an agricultural equipment mechanic. Workers must be able to diagnose problems and repair farm machinery engines and machines including but not limited to tractors, forklifts, harvest equipment, irrigation, and spraying equipment. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Workers must pass a pre-employment drug test per federal regulations. All drug testing will be at the employers expense. Failing or refusing a preemployment drug test will result in not being hired. Failing or refusing a drug test post hire will result in immediate termination. All drug testing is at employer expense.
