Job description

We need seasonal employees to assist with our calving season, which begins in December and ends in April. During this time, cattle are confined for calving and require daily care and feeding. After the season ends, no daily care is needed. Cattle duties are only required during this timeframe due to our scheduled calving periods. Employees will tend to livestock during the winter months when the cattle cannot be on pasture grazing. The job also involves removing snow in the winter months. Since cattle are not on pasture during the winter, they require significantly more work, including feeding them hay, as the grass is dead and often covered in snow. Duties include feeding and watering livestock; monitoring food and water supplies; mixing feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions; and ordering and distributing feed using trucks, tractors, or other equipment. Employees will examine animals to detect illness, injury, disease, or abnormal weight gain. Additional tasks include herding livestock to pastures, scales, trucks, or enclosures; shifting animals between grazing areas to ensure access to food; patrolling grazing lands on horseback or ATV; and moving livestock, equipment, or poultry between locations manually or using vehicles. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion, Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.

Special Requirements

Job requires exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures, Must be able to lift 50 lbs, Must have a regular driver's license. Require 3 months experience.

Did you know that... most J-1 workers who work more than 40 hours a week

(and in some states, more than 8 hours a day), can get paid "time and a half?"
