Job description
Observe animals in heat to detect estrus and identify animals to induce and breed them. Implement reproductive synchronization protocols through administering prescribed injections. Select animals to be bred, and semen specimens to be used, according to knowledge of animals, genealogies, traits, and desired offspring characteristics. Conduct and monitor tests on milk and colostrum to ensure compliance with quality controls such as bacterial counts, milk composition, temperature, and volume. Feed and water cattle, clean and disinfect pens, hutches and water tanks. Examine and monitor animals to detect symptoms of illness or injury for the purpose of diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of injuries and diseases. Contact the Dairy Manager or Veterinarian to obtain internal treatment protocols for animals with serious illnesses or injuries and to treat such ailments. Maintain accurate test records, procedures, and findings to ensure all documentation complies with internal and regulatory standards. Adhere to safety protocols while working with various equipment and cattle.
Special Requirements
Must have prior experience working with dairy cattle. Must have a A.I. Breeding certificate. Experience feeding cattle is preferred.
