Job description
This is a temporary job for 12 workers located in Newton county. Work week is 50 hours per week Monday thru Saturday. Overtime work may be offered at same rate of pay. Work will begin on 02/28/2021 and end on 12/20/2021. Post hire drug test are at the expense of the employer. Farm workers are needed to work both in nursery and outside in all weather. Workers may work with potted plants, shrubs, blueberries and small trees. Duties may include work on a potting line, cultivating soil, transplanting products to prepare and plant fields, irrigation, mowing, rake, bale, cultivate, harvest hay, weed eating, hoeing, pruning, weeding, mulching, raking, moving unwanted debris, fertilizing, and other growth activities. Employees may be required to perform miscellaneous activities related to care and growth of products. Some products must be transplanted: potted plants/ seeding may require transplanting to larger pots or to prepare fields. Workers will be required to load/unload trucks containing up to 80 lb. bags of soil, additives, hay, miscellaneous equipment, products, etc. Workers must be able to operate farm equipment such as tractors, zero turn mowers, chainsaws, blowers, weed eaters, edgers and small power tools and hand tools. Workers will harvest at supervisors instruction and transport products to appropriate places for storing and shipping to maker. Smoking is not allowed while working on worksite for any reason. Work site must be cleaned daily. Tools and equipment must be cleaned and repaired as applicable. Workers will be required to preform a variety of jobs including any combination of duties related to preparing soil and growth media, transplanting and care of products. Workers may be required to screen soil, fill cold frames, or hot beds, work on potting lines, water and prepare products for maker. Products must be tied, bunched, wrapped, priced, and tagged. Workers may pack products to fill orders, keep stock properly stacked and maintained for storage. Workers will clean pots, tools, and facilities and other miscellaneous equipment and maintain all tools, facilities, fences and equipment by repairing or replacing and cleaning as required. Job requirements are physically demanding. Workers must be able to work in various outdoor weather conditions such as high humidity, light rain, and extreme heat. Temperatures can reach 100 degrees or more. Workers must be able to work on feet and in stooped positions for long periods of time. Workers are needed to work both in nursery and outside in weather elements. Employee may be required to work miscellaneous activities related to care and growth of products. Some products must be transplanted. Worker must have three months (3) prior work experience in similar position offered. Applicant must be able to furnish job references from recent employer establishing acceptable prior experience. If worker performance is not acceptable to the employer, in his sole discretion, the worker may be terminated.
