Job description

T Bar J Capital LLC is starting a new operational endeavor which we are investing into. The cattle operation side of our business includes the purchasing of pregnant heifers and calving them; once the calves are weaned, both the heifers and calves are sold off. This position involves caring for livestock, specifically cattle. This is a winter position to ensure calving of pregnant heifers which we buy in. The job entails feeding, watering, and adding supplements to feed; maintaining fences, livestock housing, water sources, and feeding equipment; moving the herd from one pasture to another and/or into shelter for protection from inclement weather; snow-related tasks such as snow removal and shoveling from livestock housing and feed/watering areas; calving and all its aspects including assisting with birthing and monitoring the heifers’ health; maintaining calving records; and driving a pickup or ATV to distribute bales of hay and feed. In the summer months, a large amount of the above-listed duties fall away as the herd has already calved and the temperature has changed—when purchased, the heifers are on natural grazing and supplemental feeding is not required, nor is protection from the cold elements of the winter. We do not need any calving or livestock assistance in the summer when cattle are on pastures and after they are sold. Only care is needed while confined for the calving season. Job duties will include cleaning stalls, pens, and equipment using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps; driving trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals; examining animals to detect illness, injury, or disease and to check physical characteristics such as rate of weight gain; feeding and watering livestock and monitoring food and water supplies; herding livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures; inspecting, maintaining, and repairing equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences; marking livestock to identify ownership and grade using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos; mixing feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions; ordering food for animals and arranging for its delivery; providing medical treatment such as administering medications and vaccinations or arranging for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment; segregating animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition; shifting animals between grazing areas to ensure sufficient access to food; spraying livestock with disinfectants and insecticides or dipping or bathing animals; caring for animals; cleaning equipment or facilities; examining animals to detect illness, injury, or other problems; maintaining operational records; transporting animals, crops, or equipment; and treating animal injuries or illnesses. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion., Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.
