Job description
Worker will perform a variety of duties related to the production and care of cattle. Responsibilities include making minor mechanical adjustments and repairs to farm machinery and automatic waterers; removing undesirable and excess growth from farm grounds; maintaining and repairing fencing; and performing general cleanup of farm and livestock areas. Worker will regularly check the physical characteristics and general condition of livestock and provide appropriate care. Duties include observing animals to detect illness, injury, disease, and rate of weight gain; determining delivery time and assisting with calving; weaning calves from mothers; and applying or administering medications, vaccines, and insecticides. Worker will mix feed and additives, feed and water livestock, place mineral blocks, and drive equipment or trucks to haul and distribute feed and water. Additional duties include herding livestock, confining livestock in stalls, cleaning and disinfecting corrals, stalls, and sheds, and applying ear tags. Worker will also saddle, train, ride, and care for horses; maintain records on animals; rope cattle from horseback; and drive, load, and unload farm trucks. Workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers. Applicants must have at least 20 days of experience with livestock care and horseback riding and must provide contact information for at least one reference who can verify experience and performance.
Special Requirements
Hours listed in Section A.6 are the anticipated hours to be worked. The employer may offer additional work hours or these hours could increase or decrease based on weather conditions, crop delay, pests or disease, crop yield, available labor, and or productivity. Use of electronic devices during work hours is restricted to emergencies only.
