Job description

General workers needed for a variety of tasks related to the production, maintenance, and harvest of cattle and crops including hay and grass. Workers shall care for and maintain hay fields and equipment, cut, rake, and bale hay. Workers may repair fencing. Responsibilities include operating tractors, field preparation, water system maintenance, fertilizing, planting, and harvesting. Workers will perform manual shovel work, hoeing, and spot spraying for weed control, and assist in applying organic herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides using a spray wand connected to a solution tank to manage undesirable growth and pests. Work may include mechanized field work using power equipment. By way of example and not limited to power equipment which may include tractors, planters, sprayers, cultivators, and other farm equipment. Workers will be expected to be able to operate agricultural equipment with or without direction. Additional responsibilities include equipment repair and maintenance, assisting with irrigation activities, constructing trellises, and repairing fences or farm buildings. Workers will perform general farm-related tasks, such as maintaining grounds, cleaning around ponds and fields, and managing structures. Raises and/or bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker employed pursuant to this job order, at the company's sole discretion, based on individual factors including work performance, skill, and tenure.
The job involves physically demanding tasks such as stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 50lbs. Work is performed outside in various weather conditions, including temperatures exceeding 100°F, and requires workers to remain on their feet in bent or stooped positions for extended periods. Workers are exposed to wet weather early in the morning through the heat of the day working in the fields. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, related chemicals, etc. may affect workers ability to perform the job. Workers should be physically able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Housing is provided, and all necessary tools are furnished. The employer will designate time for lunch and breaks. Worker may be requested to work Sunday during peak times and special needs but not required. These requirements pertain to both H-2A and US workers. Extreme heat, cold or drought may affect working hours. Workers will be required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, weather and crop conditions permitting, with the possibility of extended hours (12-14 hours per day) or weekend work during peak seasons. Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work due to weather, crop, or other conditions beyond the control of the employer. This can occur anytime throughout the season. Workers may be subject to random, post-accident, and/or suspicion-based drug tests and background checks post-hire, at no cost to the worker. Failure to comply or testing positive may result in immediate termination. Workers must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. and a minimum of three months of positive, verifiable prior experience. Work begins shortly after daylight and will be performed under varying weather conditions. Workers must be prepared to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects when loading and unloading trucks. Workers may drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers. The employer may assign workers different tasks on any given day based on the farm’s needs, and all tasks outlined in this description are considered part of one job. As a general matter, working hours will be divided between duties related to cattle and grass depending on the employers needs.
