Job description

This is a Skill Level I position (entry level), and the job requires 1-2 months of ranch/farm experience detailed in the job description.

The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period will be related to general farm work, irrigation and assisting with seasonal livestock duties with cow and calf pairs and a yearling cattle operation.

Duties related to the production and shipping of livestock will include the following: assisting with late winter calving, check physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care; examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain or to determine delivery time; assist in applying or administering medications, vaccines and/or insecticides; mix feed/additives and feed/water livestock; place mineral blocks; drive equipment to haul/distribute feed/water; perform routine maintenance on water troughs including trough float repair and pipeline repair; herd livestock, gathering and feeding horses used for seasonal ranch work.

Flood irrigation duties: lift gate of flood irrigation ditch/pipe permitting water to flow into bordered section of field; shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment or cut trenches in high areas to direct water flow; shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments to appropriately channel water; use plastic dams to move water from ditches onto fields.

The lifting requirement for this position is 60 pounds.
The employer may pay a higher wage based on tenured performance.

Special Requirements

The anticipated hours listed represent the normal work schedule. Due to the nature of the work, the calving season, the growing season, weather, and the requirement to send the commodity to customers when needed, it is the prevailing practice to work more or different hours than those listed.
