Job description
This ETA 790 job order is filed for Farmworker and Labors 45-2091.00. Workers will perform multiple duties associated with this SOC code and the code of Agricultural Equipment Operators (45-2091.00).
Crops: Apples, Strawberry, Cherry, Peach, Pear, Raspberry, Blueberry, Cabbage, Tomato, Sweet Corn, Peppers, Pumpkins, Squash, Cucumbers, Melons, Lettuce, Herbs, Egg Plant, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Turnips, Beets, Potatoes.
Greenhouse plants: Flower, Shrubs, Mums, Ornamentals, Vines.
Worker must possess the physical strength and endurance (ability to continue or last) to repeat the harvest process though out the workday, working quickly and skillfully to perform activities assigned during that activity. Workers may not leave trash, or other discarded items in work areas or vehicles but must dispose of such items in provided receptacles. Workers must wash hands with soap and water after all bathroom and meal breaks. Allergies to varieties of ragweed, goldenrod, insecticides, related agricultural chemicals, etc., may affect worker’s ability to perform the work described herein.
Employer conducts and workers must attend orientation on workplace rules, harvest methods, crop specific issues, policies, and safety information. Workers are expected to always follow work rules.
Working team leader: Some workers will be chosen as working team leaders. These workers will monitor and direct the activities of their fellow workers. These workers will be chose at the employers discretion based on skill, tenure and chosen at the employers discretion. This workers will make a higher wage than what is listed in the job order.
Sanitation Requirements: For food and general personal safety purposes, all workers will be required and expected to follow common sanitary practices at all times. This is particularly critical when hand harvesting crops for human consumption. Employees are required to cleanse their hands by washing them thoroughly with soap and water after using the bathroom and before entering the fields for harvest activities. All workers must report all injuries and illnesses to their employer. As well any communicable disease such as but not limited to diarrhea, or any other infectious disease or illness. Workers shall report immediately any cuts or abrasions that cause open bleeding.
Worker must be able to perform all duties within job description in safe manner adhering to all established orchard/field safety guidelines, practices and procedures. Field work begins at assigned time shortly after daylight. Work may be performed during moderate rain and in high humidity and in temperatures as low as 30 degrees F and up to 105 degrees F. Worker may be required to work in orchard/field when trees are wet with dew/rain and should have suitable clothing for variable weather conditions.
Orchard Maintenance: Workers involved in orchard maintenance may be required to hoe trees, girdle, spread fertilizer, pick up roots and limbs, strip suckers or unwanted growth from trees, dig root suckers, dig up rocks, knock fruit off trees, remove vines, lay irrigation pipe, repair, and maintain drip system, strap, and tie fruit trees, assist in tree grafting, tapping and tape removal. Employer will provide all equipment. Instruction will be given for each task and standards of performance communicated to workers. The specific standards for a job will be disclosed and demonstrated by the supervisor before the work begins. Workers will also roll out and clean up tarps throughout orchard as instructed.
Support jobs include bin and pallet repair, repair boxes, paint tree trunks/posts, stake, and weed using a hoe or by hand and after hours’ cleanup.
Special Requirements
All applicants must have at least 3 months experience in tree fruit harvest. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. You must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
