Job description

Crops/Commodities:
perennials, annuals, bedding plants, vegetables.
Alternative Contract Start Dates Available: 3/15/2026, 4/9/2026.

Perform manual and mechanized tasks associated with the production of greenhouse plants and other horticultural products. Plant, cultivate, and maintain nursery stock, trees, shrubs, bedding plants, plugs, liners, hanging baskets, and other horticultural varieties. Propagate plants from cuttings. Plant/pot seedlings, fill and label trays, move product to/from greenhouses and/or loading/unloading areas. Crimp wire baskets. Attach hangers to baskets and hang throughout holding houses. Move containerized plants using rolling/electric carts. Load/unload trucks and product from conveyor belt. Clean/maintain work area.

Prune, trim, and perform other general plant maintenance. Water or irrigate plants, and apply fertilizer or other chemicals. Tie/position plants by tying or wrapping as necessary. Count, inventory, and grade plants. Pack, label, tag, pull, sort, and store plants by variety.

Plant, cultivate and harvest produce in a greenhouse operation. Lower and clip plants, remove shoots, prune, de-leaf, and harvest crops. Raise and lower vines. Use hand 573 KB tools including, but not limited to: shovels, brooms, clippers, rakes, and knives. Plant, interplant, and transplant by hand. Pick, cut, lift, or pull crops.Install drippers and hang hooks. Grading, sort, pack, and weigh product. Stack and de-stack product and supplies. Take care to prevent damaging produce and plants. May use mechanized equipment including but not limited to: sprayers, high lifts, and other power tools/equipment. Must operate agricultural equipment safely, with or without direction. Assist with greenhouse and pack house maintenance and repairs.

Order Processing:
1. Select and pull plants according to customer pick lists, starting from the top.
2. Verify plant quality, ensuring no damaged, diseased, or missing plants.
3. Confirm correct flat, container, or hanging basket sizes.
4. Groom plants by removing dead blooms and yellow leaves.
5. Ensure all plants are properly tagged before staging.
6. Water dry plants before they leave the greenhouse (or note if watering will be done at the loading barn).
7. Accurately mark off products on the pick list before loading onto carts.
8. Load plants onto moving racks from bottom up, adjusting shelves as needed.
9. Fertilize hanging baskets as directed (mid-April feeding).
10. Note any crop quality concerns on pick lists and inform the sales team or production manager.
11. Maintain a clean and organized work area, keeping cups in flats and disposing of debris.
12. Report any maintenance issues with carts, racks/lizzies, trailers, or facilities.

Order Assembly & Staging:
1. Assemble pulled products—bedding flats, perennials, patio containers, and hanging baskets—onto shipping racks for delivery.
2. Run completed orders through the water tunnel for final hydration.
3. Organize and stage racks behind designated trucks based on route assignments.
4. Use colored ribbons to indicate different delivery drops as instructed by the Transportation Team Leader.
5. Verify order accuracy against delivery tickets before staging for shipment.
6. Turn in completed paperwork to the office for final processing.
7. After loading is complete, return unused racks to the designated area for the next day's orders.

Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer's products and property. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination.

Must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required. Must report for work daily wearing work clothing and boots or other durable foot wear. Workers wearing clothing inappropriate for work will not be permitted to start work.

Special Requirements

This job requires a minimum of 3 months of agricultural experience working in a greenhouse handling both manual and mechanized tasks. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 60 lbs. Workers with clean driving record and/or insurable driver's license may be required to drive company vehicles.
