Job description

Workers will perform skilled tasks associated with the cultivation, maintenance, and harvest of wine grapes. Duties include operating and maintaining vineyard equipment, tractors, and implements used in pruning, mowing, spraying, discing, and harvesting operations. From January through March, workers will prune vines, perform vineyard clean-up, and operate chippers to dispose of vine material in preparation for the growing season. From March through April, workers will tie canes and cordons to trellis wires, perform suckering and shoot thinning to manage canopy growth, and train new growth along the trellis system. From April through June, workers will assist with pest and disease control applications, perform first and second-pass shoot positioning, hand weeding using long-handled hoes, and adjust or repair trellis wires and irrigation components. During July and August, workers will conduct general vineyard maintenance including trellis and fence repairs, weed control, irrigation adjustments, and vineyard floor management to maintain soil and canopy health. From September through November, workers will harvest grapes using hand tools, operate vineyard carts or harvest aids, and perform post-harvest cleanup and field preparation for the following season. Workers must safely operate tractors, sprayers, and other vineyard machinery as directed and perform routine maintenance checks such as oil changes, lubrication, and minor repairs. Work requires knowledge of vine training systems, proper pruning and tying techniques, and irrigation management to ensure consistent crop quality. All work will be performed in accordance with California Code of Regulations, Title 8, Section 3437, governing vineyard and agricultural operations. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and may require lifting up to 50 pounds, walking on uneven ground, bending, and repetitive hand and arm movements. The employer will provide equipment-specific training and ensure all workers follow established safety protocols. Due to seasonal daylight variations, work hours will be from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. during daylight savings time and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. when daylight savings time ends.

Special Requirements

Hours listed in Section A.6 are the anticipated hours to be worked. The employer may request additional work hours based on weather conditions, crop delay, pests or disease, crop yield, available labor, and or productivity. Use of electronic devices during work hours is restricted to emergencies only.
