Job description
On farms, the worker will wash, sanitize, and disinfect tractors, trailers, semis, and other farm equipment used in the handling, transport, and processing of pigs to help prevent the spread of disease. Duties include pressure-washing equipment using water, approved detergents, and disinfectants in accordance with farm biosecurity protocols, removing manure, organic matter, bedding, and debris prior to sanitizing, and following required cleaning sequences and downtime requirements between barns, sites, or production stages. The worker will assist with setting up and maintaining wash areas, including hoses, pressure washers, containment, and drainage systems, and will clean and maintain sanitation tools, equipment, and protective gear. Additional responsibilities include disposing of wash water and waste materials consistent with environmental and biosecurity guidelines, performing winter-related sanitation maintenance such as preventing freeze damage and safely operating equipment in cold conditions, and adhering to all safety, animal-health, and biosecurity procedures. The position requires working outdoors and in wash bays during winter weather, maintaining crouched, kneeling, or stooping positions with extended arm use for periods of time, and operating a semi tractor to move trailers in and out of the wash bay within the truck wash lot only, with no highway driving required. Some weekends may be required due to weather and other factors.
Special Requirements
The Farm Sanitation Worker needs to be able to carry and lift a minimum of 50lbs. Additionally, the worker must be in good health to perform labor activities, no limitation to bend down
or carry weight (under regulated laws or norms of weight and safety procedures), and no limitation on extensive crouching, kneeling, sitting, walking, pushing, or pulling. Follow instructions correctly as well as company rules.
