Sod/Turfgrass Harvesting: Assisting the Sod Harvesting Manager with performing a second level of quality control. Sod/Turfgrass Rolling: Some sod is harvested in big rolls. To roll the sod, farm laborers operate a tractor at a speed of about 3 mph, while pulling a big roll harvester. Sod/Turfgrass Stacking (by hand): Hand stacking sod on back of the tractor. On days when there are large orders or the mechanical sod stacker breaks down, manual sod stackers are used. Taking sod slabs from a harvesting machine and manually stacking them on a pallet. Sod/Turfgrass Loading (by hand): Most sod is harvested by machine and stacked on a pallet in the field. Some customers come out of the field and farm laborers take individual pieces of sod off the pallet and stack it on or in the customers vehicle. Mini rolls of sod weigh about 30-40 pounds each. Must be able to transfer 54 mini rolls of sod by hand from a pallet. Forklift Operation: Forklift is used to lay empty pallets on the sod stacking machine, staging full pallets from the stacking line and loading sod pallets onto delivery trucks and customer trailers in a safe and professional manner. Collecting harvested 42” by 80’ big rolls, staging them for truck loading, and loading bid rolls on the delivery trucks. Minor mechanical work associated with all jobs. Centipede Seed Processing: During seed harvesting season workers will sample centipede seed for moisture testing and stir seed in wagons using a handheld auger. When seed is dry and ready to be unloaded, they will unload wagons, not totes using a grain vacuum. If asked to help with chemical spraying, safety training will be provided. Did you know that... most J-1 workers who work more than 40 hours a week

(and in some states, more than 8 hours a day), can get paid "time and a half?"
