Job description
Planting seedling trees in areas that are designated as commercial timber zones. As required, the ground is prepared prior to the planting by clearing an area of brush with the use of the planting shovel, a hole is then dug, and then the seedling tree is planted into the hole. Once the seedling is in the hole, the worker uses the shovel to fill the hole up with the dirt and ensures the seedling is secure in being planted by tamping the soil about the newly planted tree. Measures are taken to protect the seedling by spraying and/or placing netting/tubing around the base of the seedling. The worker must be able to carry the trees in a planting bag which when filled with trees can weigh up to 50 lbs.
Thinning will be conducted with the use of a chainsaw. The worker must be able to carry chainsaw, fuel and oil, weighing about 30 pounds, up and down steep terrain, cutting undesirable and deceased trees, clearing brush and hand piling the material for future disposal. All work to be conducted on steep terrain, 30% - 50% in slope. Must be able to work in a safe manner.
Special Requirements
Must be able to plant in an 8 hour day by the end of the 1st week 800 trees, 2nd week 900 trees, 3rd week 1000 trees on 30% - 50% slope. Must be available to work in all counties, from the start of season until the end of the season.
