Truck Drivers

Job description

Crops: corn, wheat, and sorghum.

Agricultural Equipment Operation: Operate self propelled agricultural equipment such as harvesters, loaders, tractors, and swathers to assist with reaping, harvesting, threshing, swathing, or winnowing crops including corn, wheat, silage, and milo. Perform manual or mechanical adjustments and safety checks on equipment. Maintain and repair equipment and tools by greasing, cleaning filters, and replacing cutters. Attach implements using hand tools. Weigh containers and record weights. Farm trucks: Drive semi tractor-trailer truck transporting harvested crops, equipment, inputs, tools from one field to another or to elevators, silos, or other farm storage areas. Regularly climb into and out of trucks and trailers. Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure. Secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, or covers. Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy. Maneuver trucks into and out of loading and unloading positions. Load-unload trailers and cargo. Handle equipment and cargo carefully to prevent damage. Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes in compliance with state regulations. Interact with roadway officials. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspection and paperwork on trucks and trailers. Clean/maintain lights, windows, and mirrors, and vehicle exterior. Add engine oil and fuel as needed. Perform preventative maintenance. Must be able to drive in rain, snow, and other hazardous conditions as needed. Drive in both on-road (paved) and off-road conditions. May drive other vehicle types. Use GPS and/or maps to navigate to destinations. Read/comprehend traffic signage and directions. Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer's products and property. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination.

Special Requirements

Worker must have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a valid drivers license for the duration of employment.
