Job description
Drive day cabs with flatbed trailer and tractor trailers containing Sod and associated products produced on farm to various farm-owned properties and to market. Load and unload trucks using forklift and tarp loads. Transport loads from field to shop. Move trucks to be loaded. Read load tickets. Perform other incidental activities associated with growing grass and sod in a nursery. Workers may load and unload empty pallets by hand. Load trucks, secure loads, safely drive delivery trucks to job sites, unload and place products. Perform necessary daily inspection and maintenance of delivery trucks and forklifts (i.e.: all fluids, fuel, tires, lights, etc.). Immediately report any needed repairs to shop foreman and follow through to ensure repairs are completed. Provide technical assistance to customers on proper sod installation procedures. For Big Roll jobs, communicate roll-out procedures with job foreman, operate forklift for roll-out as needed, educate, communicate with and supervise site labor crew for proper installation procedures. Complete and hand in daily paper work. Collect payment when necessary. Communicate the attitudes, interests, questions and concerns of customers with the office manager so we may most efficiently provide for the needs and desires of our customers. Routinely and effectively communicate with company teammates (dispatch, office, field/harvest crew, shop). Activities will be exclusively performed in an outdoor environment. May perform other activities associated with growing grass and sod in a nursery. Workers may load and unload empty pallets by hand. Workers will be paid overtime for more than 40 hours per week only for driving related duties. Work schedule will have an estimated start time of 4:00am-6:00am depending on schedule, and end time depending on schedule. Work schedule will potentially range from 40 to 60 hours per week with additional hours throughout the year depending on weather, crop conditions, and customer orders. Schedules will fluctuate throughout the day and season. Work not required on Sunday.
Special Requirements
Current and clean CDL driver's license (Class A) or foreign equivalent required for workers performing driving duties. Workers performing driving duties will be subject to pre-hire drug screening and random drug testing post-hire at employer expense for safety concerns. Once employment commences, testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination. Workers must be able to work in cold, wet, hot, humid weather and able to work on their feet in bent, stooped positions for long periods of time. Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds on a consistent basis throughout the workday. Deliveries are made on a daily basis to client job sites based on the schedule, generally within a 150 mile radius of the farm. Hours vary based on customers orders, demand, weather and time of year. Throughout the season, early start times for driving duties may often range between 2:00am and 6:00am.
