Job description

The Farm Equipment Mechanic / Agricultural Equipment Operator will support the full crop cycle of large-scale irrigated alfalfa farms in Arizona. Duties include operating, maintaining, and repairing agricultural machinery, assisting with irrigation systems, performing field labor as needed, and ensuring all equipment is safe and functional to support efficient harvesting, baling, and storage operations. Work is performed outdoors in hot, dusty, and sometimes wet conditions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
Operate tractors, swathers, balers, rakes, loaders, forklifts, utility vehicles, and other machinery used in alfalfa production.
Transport tools, materials, hay bales, and equipment across the farm using trailers, trucks, or agricultural vehicles.
Assist during cutting, baling, stacking, and hauling operations to ensure timely and efficient harvests.
Follow all safety procedures during machine operation, movement, repairs, and field work.

Equipment Maintenance & Mechanical Repair
Perform routine service on farm machinery and vehicles, including oil changes, filter replacement, lubrication, cleaning, battery testing, and hose/line inspections.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using appropriate tools and methods.
Dismantle defective machinery for repair and replace or rebuild worn or damaged parts.
Reassemble machinery and test operations with adjustments as necessary.
Tune, calibrate, or overhaul engines and components to restore optimal performance.
Perform electrical troubleshooting, including diagnosing shorts, failed sensors, and wiring faults.
Test equipment after repair to ensure safe and proper functioning.
Maintain accurate service and maintenance logs.

Irrigation Support
Assist with setup, operation, and monitoring of center pivot, linear move, and drip irrigation systems.
Inspect systems for leaks, clogged nozzles, pressure issues, or operational malfunctions.
Report irrigation problems to supervisors and assist with basic repairs or adjustments.

Field Labor & General Farm Work
Assist with seasonal planting or reseeding operations.
Perform general maintenance tasks, including cleaning equipment, clearing debris, and organizing work areas.

Work Environment & Conditions
Work takes place outdoors in extreme heat and desert conditions.
Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs and perform physical labor as needed.

A general work week is Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm and Saturday 6:00am to 11am. However, because of the complexity of the crop conditions workers may be requested to work long days as well as on Saturdays, Sundays or Federal Holidays, depending upon the conditions of the commodities being produced. Workers may also be requested to work in various shifts.

Special Requirements

Six months farm equipment mechanic experience required. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs and work long hours in extreme desert conditions (heat, dust, wind). Must follow directions from supervisors and comply with all company and safety policies. Must be able to perform repetitive physical tasks, bend, stoop, and climb onto equipment safely. Work requires flexibility and attention to detail in a team environment.
Workers must have a valid, insurable drivers license or be eligible to apply for same at no cost to the worker. Will be asked to drive vehicles for transporting workers, goods, or commodities on company business.
