Job description
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist with the harvest of a variety of grain and oilseed crops. Workers will operate combines, tractors, grain carts, farm trucks, and other farm field equipment to harvest, handle, and move crops from fields to storage areas. Duties include changing combine cutting heads, monitoring equipment during harvest operations, and ensuring that all machinery is functioning safely and efficiently. Workers will perform general maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of harvest equipment, storage sheds, and work areas to keep all farm operations organized and well maintained. Responsibilities include using hand tools to repair, clean, and maintain vehicles, combines, tractors, specialized machinery, and other agricultural equipment; regularly adding oil, fuel, and other necessary fluids; and performing routine service to keep all harvest equipment in proper working order. Some crop transportation tasks may be required to support harvest operations. Workers may also open and close hopper-bottom trailer doors during loading or unloading as needed. Transportation duties are performed solely to support on-farm harvest activities. Daily duties may vary depending on crop readiness, weather, and field conditions. Workers may be required to shift tasks or locations throughout the day and perform a variety of general farm functions as assigned. The employer may, at their sole discretion, increase workers’ pay or offer bonuses based on tenure, performance, or other factors. Radios will be provided to all workers, at no cost or deposit, in equipment used for operations to ensure effective communication and access to assistance in the event of an emergency.
Special Requirements
Job will require periods when workers may be exposed to varying weather conditions and extensive sitting or walking. Random drug testing may occur post-hire at the employers expense. These checks may be performed to ensure safe housing and work environments for all workers. Positive drug test results or refusal to comply with testing may result in termination of employment.
