Job description

Crops: Shade Trees, Flowering Trees, Evergreen Shrubs, Deciduous Flowering Shrubs, Vines, Ground Covers, Ornamental Grasses, Roses, Perennials, Blueberries, Figs

- Unload incoming deliveries of plants, supplies, equipment, and tools.
- Select plant orders, label, and prepare for delivery to customers.
- Load trucks with nursery plants and supplies.
- Growing of nursery plants including mixing growing media, potting, watering, pruning, weeding, fertilizing, liming, spacing, staking, trellising, and leaf clean up.
- Set down of newly potted plants on growing areas or inside greenhouses.
- Pick out poor quality or dead plants.
- Maintain growing areas, roads, and ditches.
- Maintain nursery greenhouses (cover, strap, patch, and uncover greenhouse plastic).
- Install frost protection blankets as needed.
- Repair nursery barns, greenhouse doors, and structures as needed.
- Assemble and install new greenhouses.
- Move plants from growing areas into the greenhouses for winter protection.
- Weed control throughout the nursery.
- Daily cleanup of work areas, trucks, tractors, wagons, lunchroom, loading dock, empty trash containers.
- Maintain nursery containers and other supply storage areas.
- Stand up blown over plants on windy days or following windy weather conditions.
- Install posts, wires, and cables to prevent blow over of some plants.
- Install plant anchors to keep plants standing upright as well as tie individual plants to wires/cables to prevent blow over.
- Perform minor irrigation repairs.
- Clean up following completion of the irrigation repairs.
- Install drip irrigation tubes and emitters on newly potted plants.
- Operate nursery pick-up trucks and tractors on-site to pull wagons with nursery plants and supplies on board (operational and safety training provided).
- Set up plant displays and maintain on-site customer pick-up areas.
- Load plants.
- Maintain plant areas with regular production practices including watering, weeding, fertilizing, pruning, and clean up.

Special Requirements

Two (2) months experience as a farmworker. On-the-job training is available for certain tasks. Must be able to furnish affirmative job references
from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to
meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work efficiently both independently and within a team. Available and willing to work extra hours during spring or in times of need. Must have manual dexterity. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his
or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
