Job description
We need seasonal workers to assist with our corn and wheat farming operation. Employees will help with all aspects of crop production, including preparing fields for planting; attaching farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors using bolts and hand tools; and operating tractors, planters, sprayers, seed drills, manure spreaders, combines, irrigation equipment, and other farm machinery. Job duties include planting, weeding, spraying, cultivating, and harvesting crops; fertilizing and spraying to control insects, fungus, weeds, and diseases using hand sprayers; and installing, maintaining, and repairing pivot irrigation systems. Workers will load and unload crops or materials manually or using conveyors, forklifts, transfer augers, or hand trucks; drive farm trucks and semis to haul crops, supplies, and tools; and perform inspections, adjustments, and routine maintenance and repairs on equipment. Additional duties include mixing specified materials or chemicals and loading solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery; observing and listening to machinery during operation to detect malfunctions; manipulating controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms; and operating or tending equipment used in agricultural production such as tractors, combines, and irrigation systems. Employees will also operate towed machines such as seed drills or manure spreaders to plant, fertilize, dust, and spray crops; drive trucks to transport crops, tools, and farm workers; till soil; plant and cultivate grain; and drive and operate self-propelled combines to harvest and store grain crops. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer.
Special Requirements
A minimum of 3 months of experience is required. Employees must have or be able to obtain a valid drivers license within 30 days of hire. The employer requires a post-hire drug screening at the employers expense due to the liability involved in operating farm equipment. A post-hire criminal background check will also be conducted at the employers expense because of the presence of children on the farm and the use of valuable tools and equipment. Failure to pass the drug screening and/or criminal background check will result in termination of employment. Employees must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and lift at least 30 pounds regularly. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience.
